Notes: HIPPA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA for short) has been around since 1996. It ensures that health-related data of patients remain safe and private. HIPAA regulates patient health information. This includes medical data and history, as well as the general information related to the health status of the patient. All independent contractors and consultants will comply with the following:
- No assistance or treatments options will be conveyed to another person without the written consent of the individual or specific family member. Written consent from the individual will be contained in that person’s file.
- All assistance and treatment options will be maintained in a secure digital recorded system.
- No records concerning care provided will be released unless written consent is given by the individual receiving care or appointed family member.
- Only appointed members of Mona Lisa Cares team will be granted access to medical and or treatment information
- Digital records will be kept in a secured and virus protected system.
- In case of breach of information, effected individuals will be notified.
- Records will be maintained for one year after individual being provided care terminates services contracted for.
- The HIPPA compliance as stated will also apply to independent contractors and consultants.
- No independent contractor or consultant will transmit any medical or treatment information verbally or by social media, or by phone.
- A backup system will be maintained by Mona Lisa Cares for contracted individuals and maintained by an appointed administrator.
